Microsoft and Sun Java in DazzlerMax
I have read that Microsoft will stop supporting Java on September 30, 2004. What are you recommendations for using Sun's Java Build, currently 1.4.2.01, or any other alternatives. We have developed many courses with DazzlerMax and would like to continue. Thank you.

Manager can't see direct reports in LearnerWeb
I have a manager who cannot see any of the people in her dept when she goes to the people tab. If I change her user group, she can see the people in that group. But if I put her in her actual user group (Interlibrary Loan), she cannot see anyone. There's something wrong with her being a manager in that group, but I've looked at all the details, & I can't find anything. I'm hoping you can help me figure out what's wrong.

DazzlerMax vs ISNetworld
..I am the technical architect of LW (LearnerWeb). Having not heard of ISNetworld, I also took a brief look at the ISNetworld site and immediately determined some important initial distinctions that can be made between approaches to training management software that I want to run by you for future consideration.

Understanding Version Control for SOPs
I use version control for training to make sure people are trained to the proper SOP. My version numbers are numeric. There is one SOP that has had 1 revisions 1-12, but when history is added it links to version 9 and not the current version 12.

How does Learner Web validate a user based on LAN ID (what is the process it goes through)?
First, Authentication is a global setting which toggles off the logon screen. You can not use both in the same instance. You can use both with different instances which has a services cost to implement. When active, when the user hits LW, if they do not have "state", LW requests the webserver to authenticate the user. Authentication will use whatever authentication is in place at the webserver (domain, active directory...) and will return to LW the user's network login ID from the CGI.Auth_User variable that the webserver provides (to any web based application).

Go to Admin Tab
Go to ListBox Manager
Select Add Item for the AutoAssign item in the ListBox Manager

|
Adding A New Security Profile
First we need to define the security profile in the ListBox Manager.
1. Go to Admin Tab
2. Go to ListBox Manager
3. Go to SecProfiles
4. Select Add Item
5. Enter a Description and Value (first 2 fields) six characters or less
6. Click Save
7. Make sure you get message at top of page "Changes Made to Database"
Second we need to define what the people who will receive this security profile can do in the system
1. Please reference the LearnerWeb Manual pages 110-113, Appendix G. This is a listing of the security profiles that are available in the system. You can assign one of four levels of access for each of these profiles: No Access, Read Only, Add/Edit or Add/Edit/Delete.
2. Go to Admin Tab
3. Go to Security Profiles
4. Click Add Modules to Group Wizard hyperlink
5. Follow wizard by selecting from the ListBox the security profile you created above
6. After clicking Next, select the modules you would like the people to have Read Only Access to.
7. Finish wizard.
8. Complete steps 4-7, except select modules people need to have Add/Edit access to.
9. Complete steps 4-7, except select modules people need to have Add/Edit/Delete access to.
Now the security profile has been created. Security profiles can only be assigned to LearnerWeb Managers.
To add a person as a LearnerWeb Manager:
1. Go to Admin Tab
2. Go to LearnerWeb Managers
3. Click Add Manager link
4. Complete wizard
5. Find this new managers name on the list of managers
6. Click Edit next to their name.
7. Ensure the proper security profile is selected, choose the authorization level and assign them a User Group Default. The User Group Default needs to be the UserGroup ID for the group of people they need to SEE in the LearnerWeb system.
To find the User Group Default:
1. Go to Admin Tab
2. Go to Group/Location Listing
3. Identify the User Group they should see. Write down the combination of letters/numbers in the first column on this page. It may be called SecurityID or User Group ID depending on the build of your system.
4. Go back to Admin Tab
5. Go to LearnerWeb Managers
6. Find Manager
7. Click Edit next to their name and add this letters/numbers to the UserGroup Default field
8. Click Save
9. Make sure you get message at top of the page "Changes Made to Database"

Passing Complete Status in AICC without a final test
When using Lectora to develope training to be launched and tracked in LearnerWeb, when definining the parameters for the Mastery Score Property, if there is no test required to earn a completed status for the course, then the Mastery Score must be set to 0. When configuring the course, if the the mastery score is not set to zero but is left at the default value of 75 %, then when using a jump to the last page action to submit a Finish statuts, you still will not a completed status. For this action to work without a test, there can be no value for the Mastery Score and we recommend that you set it to 0 to make sure there is no question over what a passing score should be. Although this article applies specifically to publishing content in Lectora for LearnerWeb, this scenario would apply with any other content tool that uses similar parameters for defining testing protocols when a test may not be required to move to the next module or lesson but the course does need to completed.

Auto Assign Error Issue
When using the auto assign wizard, there is a potential error that can occur if job titles are set up in the system with commas. If run into a Cannnot use the variable 'LuAAcode.Description' to do an operation without first defining it' error, this could be your problem. You could also get this error if there is a comma in the department name. All commas need to be replaced and the '-' must be used instead. Below is a sql statement that can be run to correct this information. This sql may need to be adapted for your specific codes table and is not guaranteed to be a perfect fix on its own. This statement must be run through the Querry analyzer and can not be run in the SQL Processor of LearnerWeb. Before using this sql, unless you are 100% sure of your understanding of what this statement is doing, we highly recommend you consult with us before running. Here is the sql statement:
begin transaction
update codes set val=replace(val,',','-') where lucode='learner_title'
update learners set title=replace(title,',','-')
Then depending on success or not, do either a commit or a rollback: You should commit this statement only if you know what you are doing or have talked with a support person at MaxIT first to make sure this is what you need to correct your problem.
rollback transaction or commit transaction

Unblocking A user acount at the admin level
Occasionally, a user will log in to the system and not log out correctly. They will then go to a different area and try to log in again and find that they are told they are all ready logged in. The best solution for this problem is to teach your users how to log out of the system properly. However, in those instances when it is too late and you need to reset the user account so they can get back into the LMS, here are some instructions given recently to another customer that encountered the same problem:
1. Get the users learner id. (Not Login ID)2. Go into LW, Manager, ADMIN, SQL Processor... Enter:Update LogUser set LogStatus='I' where Learner_ID = '<UsersLearnerID>';cccClick GoLook at the bottom and you will a message of X records updated. What this does is CLEAR the log of ACTIVE logins. If you get an "invalid password" message there are usually three causes. 1. Check to make sure the password (";ccc") is the VERY next character after the SQL Statement. There can be NO SPACES after the last letter in the sql statement and the password. 2. Click the RIGHT of the last character in the password (eg the last "c" in ";ccc") and press the right arrow and down arrow. If there is any movement in the cursor, please press the delete key. Extra spaces or line feeds are treated as part of the password. 3. ";ccc" is not the proper password. This may have been changed when your system was implemented.
